Public Relations Team

 

Chuck Brutz is a senior at California University, with a dual major in Creative Writing and Journalism. He is a writer for both the Cal Times and California Focus newspapers. His interests include writing, movies, TV, karaoke and researching historical pop culture places, such as Century III Mall. Brutz has been inside The Hollywood Theater in California, Pa. (closed since 1978), and last fall wrote a four-article tribute, chronicling its history. He thinks if Cal U were attacked by zombies, he could survive. His career choice upon graduation is to be a screenwriter, entertainment writer or historian, ala Rick Sebak of WQED.


Thomas M. Carroll, Jr. is a California University junior from McKeesport, majoring in Creative Writing and in Broadcasting. He is a DJ for WCAL and writes for The Cal Times newspaper. He hopes to one day publish a novel.


Dan John, editor emeritus, is a California University senior from Dunbar, majoring in Journalism and minoring in Philosophy. An award-winning Eagle Scout, John is interested in techno-industrial music, writing, politics, philosophy, religion, economics, value theory, and football. John did a PR internship with Focal Theory Entertainment. Upon graduation, John is looking for a career in public relations or in writing hard news or entertainment reviews.


Grant Alex Krinock is a California University junior, majoring in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing, while minoring in Communication Studies, with a concentration in Public Relations. He has been on the dean’s list, and in addition to The Inkwell, has been involved with the following organizations: Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, The Practitioners firm of Cal U, PRSSA Chapter of Cal U, and The National Society of Leadership and Success. His career choice after graduation is something in the PR field, as well as freelance writing, possibly in Europe.


Sammy Jo Popovich, the Public Relations Team co-editor, is a California University senior from West Mifflin. She is majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Political Science. She has had the following internships: County Executive Dan Onorato Communications, Children’s Museum of Public Programming, and Pittsburgh Penguins HD Radio Tech. Her career choice upon graduation is to be a government affairs liaison.


Nicole Rainey, the Public Relations Team co-editor, is a California University senior from Belle Vernon, majoring in Communication Studies, with an emphasis on Public Relations. In addition to being a National Honor Role Award Winner, she is involved PRSSA, Account Staff of PRactioners, the Cal U Student Public Relations Firm, and The Inkwell. Rainey is also involved with the National Society of Leadership and Success, holding the positions of chapter secretary and events coordinator. Upon her graduation with a Bachelor of Arts, she hopes to secure employment with an advertising agency or professional sports team.
