Tail whips back and forth
tapping on the floor like a drum in the Thanksgiving parade.
The noise of welcome,
barks echo through the room
as the door opens,
and those floppy ears tilt to the side
waiting for that pat on the head.

Wet nose rubs against the skin
feeling slimy and smooth as
the rubbery tongue touches the chin
letting love come dripping with every lick.

Warmth from the soft orangish brown fur tickles
while cuddling next to his best friend, his partner, his companion.
His beating heart sounds hard against the chest
as the breath gets heavy and the brown eyes start to close.

Head leans on the pillow listening to every word
as a hand rubs down his silky back.
Two legs curled up beneath the stomach
and the others lay on his buddy’s long tired legs.

A sound emerges from his lungs,
a grunt of satisfaction and content.
Finally the body lies still,
the breath heavy and now asleep in his comfort zone.
